A NEW CHAPTER

The Brewster-Wheeler Development

COMMUNITY IMPACT • TRANSFORMATION

Bishop Charles H. Ellis III and business partner MHT Housing, Inc. are currently constructing an exciting new 4-phase affordable housing development at the historic site of the Brewster-Wheeler Recreation Center in Detroit. In addition to the full restoration of the Rec Center, the completed development will feature four new 4-story apartment buildings totaling 211 units. One of the four buildings will address the significant housing need for young men aging out of the Michigan foster care system, providing complete wrap-around services for successful independent living.

This $83 million development brings new life to the site of the nation’s inaugural federally subsidized public housing, the Brewster Projects. In August of this year, Bishop Ellis and the Greater Grace Recording Choir were officially nominated for a Stellar Award in the category of Best New Artist of the Year.
